Grants of up to £2,500 to help Teesside charities and community groups support vulnerable people through the colder months

With energy bills rising again this October, Tees Million is looking to help local charities and community groups support vulnerable people through the winter months.

The Warm This Winter Fund, first launched in 2022, provides grants of up to £2,500 to organisations delivering practical help to people struggling with energy costs and the wider cost of living.

The latest increase in energy prices means a typical household paying by Direct Debit will face an annual bill of £1,723 under Ofgem’s price cap, a rise of 4% from 1 October.

While Government support remains available to eligible households, the cost of keeping warm continues to put pressure on people already struggling to make ends meet.

The fund has previously helped groups across Teesside provide warm community spaces, hot meals, slow cookers and other practical support to people facing difficult circumstances.

Sarah Albaladejo, grants manager at Tees Million, the grant-giving service of the Tees Foundation, said:

“We’ve seen some wonderful groups doing amazing things in our area over the years, helping our community every day with warm spaces, soup kitchens, slow cookers and other helpful measures to help people stay warm. We are keen to help as many as possible again through these cold months.”

Supporting communities across Teesside

Local charities and voluntary groups are often best placed to identify people who need help and respond quickly with practical support.

Whether providing a warm place to meet, a hot meal or essential household items, these organisations play an important role in helping vulnerable residents through the winter.

Tees Million provides £1 million in accessible funding to communities across Teesside every year, with the aim of getting money directly to the people and organisations making a difference.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individual donors, more than £40 million has been distributed across the area through the Tees Foundation.
