Supporting local families in Kirkleatham to improve social connection

What was needed?

Kirkleatham Parish is in the top 7% of most deprived parishes in England and 35% of children are living in households with an income level below 60% of the national minimum wage, so the need for community support is significant.
By creating communitiy sessions that focus on social needs of the local community – in particular local families – Kirkleatham Parish is working to tackle isolation, improve health and well-being, relieve poverty and support local families to build community relationships.
Little Seeds was created to offer support in every way possible, to give the families hope and a strong educational foundation that the children can build upon.

How we helped...

Kirkleatham Parish Council received a Tees Million grant to help them provide essentials to people attending these vital ‘Little Seeds’ sessions at the church.
The grant helped provide essential consumables for the parents and young children, such as sanitary products, nappies, baby wipes, baby milk and baby food.
The church provides the room free of charge every week for three hours, and provides refreshments for both adults and children. A team of eight volunteers give a variety of creative play, music and stories to give the children a quality start to their learning. Social interaction is also a very important part of the group.
David Dipple from Kirkleatham Parish said: “It is impossible to overstate the impact this grant has on the lives of the families – it has seriously improved the quality of life for them.”
