Sports Challenge inspires fantastic fundraising efforts from grassroots sports clubs in Teesside!

The Sports Challenge has once again broken the £200k mark and it’s fantastic to see 22 Teesside children’s sports clubs get their hands the cash to improve their clubs.

The campaign, which started as an idea between Tees Valley Community Foundation and TFM’s Cash for Kids nine years ago, has been steadily rolled out nationally, thanks to its success on Teesside.
Sports Challenge offers local grassroots groups the chance to raise thousands of pounds to subsidise membership, buy new equipment, improve facilities and provide new kit or training. All of the money raised by each group is then match funded by Tees Million
In total the clubs raised a fantastic £143,244.80 and in total, we’ll be granting £200,705.19!
We made significant changes based on previous feedback, introducing under 50 and over 50 members’ categories, which meant more to give away and equal opportunities to clubs of all sizes.
The top three clubs in each category were:

Under 50s:

Boro Rangers U14s

Marton FC Boys & Girls

Middlesbrough Power Chair Football Club

Over 50s:

Seaton Carew FC

Hartlepool St Francis

Stockton Town FC

Sarah Albaladejo, Grants Manager for Tees Million said:

“We’re hugely impressed as always with the efforts of these hard-working local sports clubs – they deserve the match funding and all the benefits it brings their clubs.  We’re very proud of the Sports Challenge and our partnership with Cash for Kids, it really does make such a difference.”

A huge thanks to Steve and Karen from Breakfast Show, who make the night one to remember, and if you are involved in a sports club and would like to register your interest for next year, get in touch with us.
