Warm spaces for snacking and chatting helps reduce social isolation and loneliness

Boosbeck Village Hall is a registered charity based in a small rural village in East Cleveland.  Ran by volunteers, the organisations puts on regular groups and events to develop community spirit, alleviate social isolation and loneliness and help with the cost of living crisis.

What was needed?

The charity needed help to provide warm spaces for weekly activities in the hall. The participants of these groups are mainly elderly, could be facing social isolation and loneliness and are most likely struggling with the cost of living,  especially following changes to the  winter fuel payment.

The group wanted to put on a warm space service at its weekly adult creative session every Tuesday and provide a free, warm lunch and refreshments.  They also wanted to be able to offer a warm space every Thursday at snack and chat social group events as well as offering warm space fortnightly Lets Sing Social groups, where again, refreshments are provided.

How we helped...

The Tees Million provided a grant to help Boosbeck Village Hall to be able to put on these much needed events and to make them warm and welcoming, helping to reduce social isolation and loneliness.

Some of the attendees love to knit and crochet so they all got together and made loads of poppies to support the free masons who were running an event.
The masons were overwhelmed by how many poppies were made during these afternoon snack and chat sessions. The space provides warmth, refreshments, games, chatter, support and friendship, helping to end social isolation and loneliness by bringing people together.
“This funding has helped our community to thrive and give back to other people who are also seeking help…it feels like one great big circle of giving with so many laughs along the way.
Thank you once again, Tees Million, you are making such a difference.”
And so are you Boosbeck Village Hall – well done for all your hard work helping our community.  Thank you from everyone at Tees Million.
